Doug’s Story

RECOVERY STORY OF THE MONTH

My name is Doug P. and I’m an alcoholic. My sobriety date is 5/10/2023, prior to that day my life was in total disarray. Nothing from my upbringing, schooling, home life or circumstances led to me opening a conversation with that sentence other than the fact that I don’t physically or mentally have the capacity to put down the bottle (or anything else for that matter) once I pick it up.

I started drinking at an extremely young age out of pure curiosity and although there were some fun years in the beginning, by the time the end of junior high came around I had my big toe dipped into almost every substance you could name. After years of run-ins with the law and countless nights in lockup I just figured that’s how my life was going to be. If anything it made me a smarter criminal to avoid jail sentences. That was until the tender age of 40 rolled around and I was alienated from my family, no friends and living in either my car or on the streets. My brother reached out to me and finally opened my eyes to a better way of life through the 12 steps of A.A.

I … was forced to look in the mirror and stop blaming the world for all the bad in my life.

It was then that I was introduced to the EKC and was forced to look in the mirror and stop blaming the world for all the bad in my life. I owe my life to the EKC for opening my eyes to the possibility that I not only could, but in fact do, deserve to have love and gratitude in my life. Ever since I started implementing these steps in my life my whole world has changed for the better…never worse! I now can be a son, a brother, a friend and live with peace and serenity because of the things I learned under this roof. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Marty and everyone that makes the day to day operation of the Rock possible!

You deserve to give yourself the chance!
